Australia is one of India's most important tourism generating markets (ranked 4th in terms of foreign tourist arrivals to the country in 2019 and contributed 3.4% to the total tourism share of foreign tourists). The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Australia will increase tourists' arrival from this important source market.
Earlier than this, India and Australia have signed MoU only on 18.11.2014. But this MoU expired in 2019, and what happened after that is something that we all know.
There has always been a rise in tourists' traffic from Australia to India. The official website mentions that:
In 2016, 2, 93,625 Australian tourists visited India, which increased to 3,67,241 in 2019.
The Number of Indians who visited Australia increased consistently from 2,62,250 to 5,89,539 in 2019.
Also, Indians are offered Electronic Tourist Visa from 27th November 2014 onwards. India has drawn such MoUs with 45 more countries.
The hottest trade deal that India will draw with Australia is the 'Dil Chahta Hai' free trade agreement.
It has been procured from the official website that Minister Dan Tehan and India's Minister Piyush Goyal have also announced reaching an understanding of the Interim Trade Agreement and finalizing it in the next 30 days.
The Australia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) is expected to be concluded in 12 months after that.
Both parties agreed that the CECA would be a substantial opportunity for both economies and a significant moment in the India-Australia bilateral relationship.
Ministers highlighted the need for a balanced trade agreement that encourages expanded trade and investment flows to benefit both economies and reflects a shared commitment to the rules-based international trading system.
Indian software companies face some tax-related issues, and the mutual dialogue between the countries wants to resolve this sooner.
Responding to a question, Indian Minister Goyal said that Quad has brought the four countries. USA, India, Australia, and Japan closer had also enabled India and Australia to come closer to each other in economic relations.
Australia is open for the world from 21st February onwards, and the country is looking forward to seeing Australians, too, travelling to India for educational purposes.
"We are looking at mutual recognition of qualifications in Australia so that students can now study in both nations."
Mr Tehan expressed confidence that the interim agreement would be a significant milestone in the relationship between our two countries.
These are some precious utterances from India's Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distributions Piyush Goyal, who signed the MoU in New Delhi.
