Indian students can now stay in Australia for at least 3 to 5 years more!

Here’s some excellent news for Indian Students living in Australia. The Indian and Australian governments collaborate over Travel and Tourism to fortify their mutual relations. They can now extend their stay in Australia by at least 3 to 5 years. So, this period offers you all some ample opportunity to carve an indomitable niche for yourself in Australia and become highly successful in life.

As a part of their Free Trade Agreement (FTA) discussion, India and Australia are seeing that Indian Students in Australia get to extend their stay in the region for at least 3 to 5 years after completion of their studies.

Dan Tehan, Australian Trade Minister, is currently in India to expedite negotiations for a proposed FTA which aims to promote economic ties between the two countries and also vouch for Australia as a potential destination for Indian Tourists and students.

There has been a decrease in Students travelling to Australia during the last two years (almost 62%) owing to the pandemic. At the same time, the influx of students in the UK increased by 174%. Complications during visa processing are being smoothened to ensure faster people travel between these two countries.

The number of visitors to Australia dropped because of the severe impositions levied on Australian borders due to the global pandemic.

The Indian student market was worth 6.6 Australian billion dollars to the country’s economy in the 2019-20 financial year, second only to China as the top source of international students studying in Australia. The loss in student numbers was consequently having an impact. This has been reported in the Sydney Morning Herald.

The two sides have agreed to conclude a long-pending FTA, officially dubbed as Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA), by the end of 2022.

“Goyal and I have been in regular contact over the Christmas/New Year period because we are both committed to concluding an interim free trade agreement,” Dan Tehan was quoted in the statement.

These negotiations can prove a “potential game-changer” in opening avenues for Australia and India and boosting economic growth after the pandemic impact.

“Australia and India are important trading partners, and we share a strong desire to enhance our bilateral trade relationship further,” Mr. Tehan said.
