Here's some essential news for the expats living in Gulf. To move within regions with a new Visa, you should pay Dh500 as an additional fee for the Visa switch. This will prevent 'visa trips' to the neighbouring countries and regulate a more professional flow of the employment visa issued to such expats.

According to the official website:

Under present rules, those wishing to change sponsors or change their visas from the visit (tourist) to employment must leave the UAE and re-enter the new visa or sponsorship. Immigration Departments will now allow them to change sponsors or visas by paying Dh500 for "Reforming Status" without having to leave.

The immigration department has confirmed that the earlier changes made under the old system will be still accepted, whereas the new cases will have to abide by the new rules.

(This is from the official website) A source at the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department said, "Many expatriates have been travelling to the nearest destination such as Kish island to make a quick exit from the country and return within the same day, or the follow day to change sponsors or enter with a new visit visa."

This new regulation will help iron out any such discrepancies and organise employees' movement in and out of the country. This will also curb the movement of illegal immigrants.

Interior Minister Mohammed Saeed Al Badi urged all immigration departments to intensify the crackdown on individuals and fake companies which trade in visas.

According to official sources, some companies which exist only on paper have been caught selling employment visas. This violates not only the immigration rules but also the labour law, which prohibits working for anyone but the sponsor.
